Response to Kidulthood.....

The blog about the film kids i believe is actually true, in a way the film can be seen as having a positive outcome because it makes both the children and parents think about the society and the morals too. I agree that films like these can have a good effect on people because it highlights the negative side of society and what kids can get themselves into, however on the other hand i do believe that there is a negative side to watching these films, especially on kids. As some kids might think that it looks quite appealing, like taking drugs for example, and it could influence them into going out and trying it themselves, therefore, it is unpredictable weather the films could have a positive outcome on children.

Gambling....

The lecture on gambling was very useful as it made me realise the extent of how many people can actually get into debt because of their gambling addiction. Personally i believe that going once or twice to a betting shop or a gambling shop isn't that bad but when people start going everyday then they do have a problem. It can start of by being something that is just a thrill for the moment but it can then take over somebody's life as they get addicted. It is bad if it is used to this extent and it could lead to other problems such as having no money left, being in debt and it could also cause problems in the family or work place. Therefore, gambling can be a very serious matter and i believe in this generation it has already become a problem because the media portrays it as being an attractive thrill for youngsters and there are also more and more opportunities for people to go and gamble as there are more shops to do this.

This website gives more information about gambling and the problems arising from this addiction:

Response to Stalking.....

In regards to stalking, Law Guest has similar views to me as stalking doesn't have to be very bad but in extreme cases it can be very unhealthy. I also agree with Law's blog that stalking in extreme ways does actually show how people have instability in their lives and also reflects on their state of mind. This person feels that stalking many people don't even know that they are going abit too far as they don't see themselves as doing anything bad and i think this is true as they don't even realise to what extremes they are behaving in because of their mental state.

Response to Prostitution.........

I agree with the post on prostitution by Free Spirit as the different types of prostitution that are commented on are all wrong. Escort agencies for example provide women to take part in this type of industry and it is true that even though the agencies say they don't provide the sexual services, it does still give the chance for these women to be put into vulnerable situations and for this act to actually happen. I also agree that it does downgrade women and reduces their confidence in many ways.

The film Kids.........

This film, which i found quite difficult to watch at times was the harsh reality of youngsters in this generation. The film touched upon various issues such as puberty and sex, unsafe sex, binge drinking, shoplifting and also irresponsibility. I think all these issues happen in our world now, as many teenagers are going out and having sex with girls who haven't even gone through the whole stage of puberty in their life. The young boys in the film such as Telly, showed how they don't even question their actions or think twice about what they are doing and not only to the girls but also themselves, as Telly had already caught aids.

I think this film also shows the pressure for kids to grow up, as they are thrown into adulthood by the media. The most shocking but realistic scene of it all was how parents don't show much responsibility or act as good role model for their children, as Telly's mother was smoking whilst breast feeding her child! So this film also raises the importance of how parents need to start acting more responsibly.
As this film had an 18 certificate, it is largely aimed at the adult audience but i think that parents who watched this film would actually brush it aside and think that they don't have to to talk to their children about these issues.

Body Modifications.......

You can understand why some body modifications can be socially unacceptable and seem totally bad :

Body art to the extreme i feel is absolutely wrong as you are altering your body to the way that is not a normal body. You were made this way for a reason and changing your body in the way this picture portrays is not normal. I feel that having surgery is acceptable in society because it doesn't alter the way you look in extreme ways and if it is done to make you feel more confident then it is accepted. However piercings, tattoos or changing the way you look to the max just for fashion or in rebellion is something that i feel shouldn't be done as soon it will turn into regret.
Body modifications are also seen as a cultural identity for some cultures and really in this way nobody can complain as people from these cultures find it normal. These people have kept this tradition on for years and it is what makes them who they are, so we really have to accept in some ways that it is part of peoples lives. If it is done for attention or just fashion but not to the extreme then its not seen as bad too as everybody does something to please themselves and to find a sense of happiness in their lives, so it is up to the individual to what extreme they would want to go.

Being too religious......good or bad?

I have two views on looking at religion as the lecture made me think that to some people religion does bring out the good into their lives. Even joining cults or sects are a way of belonging to something and having an identity, which may have been lost after an incident or loss. As believing in a religious movement could help people cope with stress or help them grieve for someone they have lost. Joining a religious movement also enables people to do something in their lives when they feel they have nothing to look farward to for example and this is why many people who join like the idea of following the law and they soon feel like they have to do this. Jehovah's witnesses for example meet 5 times a week and knock on peoples doors, so this becomes their routine for daily life.

On the other hand even though they are not harming anyone, it is not healthy to be too religious as it doesn't fit in with modern society as you become lost in the movement and you eventually become trapped. This also makes you become socially unacceptable in society as you believe in things that make you less acceptable of society. Being too religious can also make you do things you normally wouldn't even think of and this is where it does become totally unacceptable, such as committing suicide for ones faith, which i definitely do not agree with. This is seen as deviant in society and no faith should allow this to happen but some faiths do brainwash people into believing they have no choice as it is the right thing to do.

Infidelity.....unfaithfulness.....

Its human nature to be tempted to something we are not supposd to do throughout our lives, however i think it depends on how strong the couple are as for instance if they are going through a rough patch, there might be a greater chance of them being unfaithful. I would'nt class flirting as infidelity as you are'nt actually sleeping around with other people, however their are many types of being bad characteristics that i would class towards infidelity, such as lying or scheming. There could be a number of reasons why someone might cheat on their partner, such as being under the influence of alcohol, problems in their marriage or even to get back at them for revenge if their partner had hurt them. The most common i think would be infidelity as a result of boredom, as in many relationships, as time goes by and you have children it seems as though you are actually married for the sake of the children. So there is no relationship intact at all as all their time goes on either working or looking after the kids.

This artice examines the reasons why people be unfaithful and some of the feelings that they go through:

Stalking..........

When i watched the clip from the peep show in the lecture it made me realise how far people go in order to get someones attention, which then results in an obsession. The guy in the peep show hacked in to a workers email account to find out more about her and because he wanted to know what she thought of him, this to me is the beginning of stalking as he is hacking in to someones private life and this only gets worse as the guy becomes obsessed with his worker. He had no right to do this without the woman's permission and as you begin to read someones emails, you want to keep on reading. To be honest it is human nature to read someone else's personal emails, however if it results in an unhealthy interest towards that person and the hacking continues, then it does constitute to serious stalking.

This link provides some factual information regarding stalking:

Prostitution..........

Is it prostitution to take money from someone expecting sex but not to supply it?.................

Personally, i feel that if a woman is taking money from a guy, which may be in terms of taking her out but she has no intention of supplying him with sex, then it is actually stealing and a deceitful act rather than prostitution, but it is still wrong. After watching the clip in the lecture of Breakfast at Tiffany's, it made me realise that women put themselves at very high risk as many girls do this these days and fool men that they are about to give them sex. They shouldn't do this at all if they have any idea of the intentions of these men. When talking about prostituition, the image that comes to my head is of women standing on street corners and dressed totally inappropriatley, so i would'nt class the character in Breakfast at Tiffany's or any women who take money from men as prostitutes.

However taking money in this way is actually socially unrespectable for me as they are portraying a very bad image for themselves and it could attract the wrong kind of men who might be willing to do anything for sex.................

This website looks into the deeper side of prostitution and especially how women are forced to take this route in order to help thier financial problems:

Shoplifting.........

This lecture made me realise the different types of shoplifting there are, in terms of the reasons why people decide to do this. As many people are actually forced to carry out this behaviour because they have no other choice. For example the less fortunate people who have to live on the streets could shopift for food or clothes because they have no money. The other type of people who shoplift could just be for greed, as they no they can't afford high street clothes but they still want the type of lifestyle that they can't have. Another point is that many people find shoplifting a thrill and this could be the reason why youngsters or rich people act this way, just to seek a thrill. For example Winona Ryder had a whole lot to lose but she still shoplifted high street clothes when she had the money to spend! I would consider shoplifting as being bad but for poor people there is no choice as there is nobody out there to help them. If there was help for these people then they would'nt have to shoplift for the basic needs in life........

The following website looks into some of the reasons why people shoplift:

Smoking.....

First of all the act of smoking is portrayed in a very positive and an attractive way in the media through films and other entertainment programmes. This is actually done intently to draw the viewers into watching these types of programmes. However, it does not show the downside of smoking and even throughout the decade of the film industry, smoking has been made to look sexy and bad and these characteristics are what the majority of people or youngsters find attractive. From the lecture i have been made aware of the increased influence that the media has on the public, especially youngsters as they look at the media for thier main source of information. There are some disturbing but true facts that i have found on the website below, which highlight the reasons why smoking is an addiction that damages your life in more than one way:

suggestions for the field trip

A club or a bar would be ideal for the being bad field trip as this is were the majority of people could behave badly because of the environment that they are in. This is were groups of friends go to hang out and enjoy themselves so they are more likely to do things as they are pushed on by their friends.
